⚡ Electric Editor: FX Edition
Recolour Tekken 8's effects, live and in-game.
Electric Editor started as a way to recolour the Mishima electrics. It's grown a lot since then. Most of Kazuya's and Devil Jin's effects can now be recoloured, with electrics for Jin, Reina and Heihachi too: beams, claw trails, devil auras, chains, shockwaves and more.
There are honestly too many effects to list now. Download it and look through each fighter's tabs.
What it does
- Live electrics. Recolour electrics while the game is running and see the change straight away, with no restart. Pick a solid colour or build a gradient across the electric's lifetime, and keep the original fade if you like.
- Mod effects. Beams, claws, auras and chains can't be changed live, so Electric Editor builds a small mod for you automatically and puts it in your
Paks\modsfolder. Pick your colours, restart Tekken, and they're in. You don't need to touch any files. - Full recolours, not just tints. Effects that were hard-locked to red or blue in the game files (like Devil Jin's eye beam and Kazuya's laser) can take any colour you pick.
- Profiles and share codes. Save as many looks as you want and switch between them. Share any setup with a single code your friends can paste in.
- Auto-updates. New versions install themselves with one click.
Installing
- Download
ElectricEditor.exeand put it anywhere (your desktop is fine). - Start Tekken 8 once, so Electric Editor can find your game folder.
- Open Electric Editor, pick a fighter, and start recolouring.
There's no installer and no file copying, because everything is handled for you.
Good to know
- Electrics tab: changes show instantly in-game.
- Mod effects tab: changes show the next time you start Tekken. If Tekken is open when you change them, they install as soon as you close it.
- Going back to normal: set a layer to "Game colours", or use "Reset to game colours". To remove everything, set it all back and the mod file is removed for you.
- Your colours are client-side only. Your opponent sees their own game's colours, not yours.
- Some effects are shared between fighters (for example, Jin's and Devil Jin's chains), so changing one changes both. The app tells you when that happens.
Troubleshooting
"New colours install when you close Tekken" won't go away
Make sure Tekken has fully closed (check Task Manager for Polaris). If it's still stuck, the message tells you where to copy the files from by hand.
Mod colours not showing
Check that the ElectricEditor_P files are in TEKKEN 8\Polaris\Content\Paks\mods, and that no other mod is changing the same effect.
After a Tekken patch If a game update changes an effect, Electric Editor skips it rather than break anything. An update for the editor will follow.
Supporter builds
Effects for Reina, Jin, Heihachi and certain effects for Kazuya and Devil Jin are still a work in progress. To avoid publishing unfinished work I've decided to hold off on pushing builds until the full update is ready. Once I'm happy with the update (usually not long) It will be free, my mods features will never be payed by default. That said, if you want to access the test builds (the ones I'm using myself whilst making features for new characters (basically just early access to new effects)), these will be posted for supporters to the project over on https://ko-fi.com/monkeytfs
